Friday 2nd November saw a brilliant day for a beach cleanup, the staff at MCL Consulting with friends and family in partnership with DAERA and keep Northern Ireland beautiful worked hard to remove marine litter from the shores of Rostrevor. In total 30 bags of rubbish and over 20 larger items including tyres, pots, fencing, rope and a lawnmower were removed from the shoreline. This area which is designated as an ASSI, RAMSAR, SPA and AONB is especially important for its saltmarshes, eelgrass beds and overwintering migratory birds. This weekend also coincided with keep Northern Ireland beautiful one million pieces of plastic removed from our coasts. This is astonishing but also inspiring, showing how together we can make a difference for the marine environment!
